The story
About this festival.
Taste of Vail is an annual grand tasting wine and food festival held each April in Vail, Colorado — now in its 35th year, the 2026 edition runs April 1–4 across 4 days of signature events, seminars, and winemaker dinners. Founded in 1990 by a group of food and wine enthusiasts, Taste of Vail operates as a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization with a mission to celebrate and promote Vail's culinary and hospitality community. The 2026 festival is expected to draw over 5,000 attendees across its four-day run.
Taste of Vail is structured around 4 signature events that span Wednesday through Saturday. The Vail Pour opening reception kicks off Wednesday from 3–6 PM at Vail Golf Club, where winemakers pour rare and limited selections alongside hors d'oeuvres from featured chefs. Thursday's Après Tasting and Chef Competition runs 3–6 PM outdoors. Friday features the Debut of Rosé — The Gore Range Experience from 12–2:30 PM. The weekend closes with the Grand Tasting Gala on Saturday, offered in two sessions: 12:30–3:30 PM and 5–8 PM. A Signature Event Pass covers all 4 events. Separately, a Connoisseur's Seminar Pass unlocks access to 7 educational seminars held throughout the festival, including a focused session on Russian River Valley Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producers. Winemaker dinners at venues including Sonnenalp Hotel and Mirabelle Restaurant in Beaver Creek round out the schedule, with the kickoff dinner priced at $175 per person (excluding tax and gratuity).
Practical planning notes: parking is limited in Vail, and the festival recommends using the Town of Vail's free bus system rather than driving. All events proceed snow or shine — spring mountain weather is unpredictable, so layers, sturdy footwear, and both cold-weather gear and sunscreen are advised. Dress codes range from Mountain Casual for outdoor tastings to Mountain Festive for the Grand Tasting Gala. Government-issued photo ID is required at all events; anyone appearing under 40 may be asked to present identification.
Vail sits at over 8,000 feet elevation in the Colorado Rockies, and the festival draws wineries and chefs from both local Colorado producers and national and international sources. The 2026 seminar lineup highlights regions like California's Russian River Valley, while winemaker dinner pairings feature producers from Napa Valley and Colorado's own vineyards — reflecting the festival's scope across American wine regions.
