The story
About this festival.
Virginia Wine Expo is a multi-day wine, spirits, and food expo held annually in Richmond, Virginia — spanning 9 days in late February and early March, with 25 or more individual events expected to draw over 5,400 attendees in 2026. Formally known as the Virginia Farm Bureau | Virginia Wine Expo, the 2026 edition runs February 28 through March 8 at venues across Richmond, with the centerpiece Walk-Around Grand Tastings held at historic Main Street Station.
What sets Virginia Wine Expo apart from a single-session tasting is its multi-event format: grand tastings, intimate wine dinners, masterclass seminars, and thematic food-and-wine experiences are spread across 9 days and multiple Richmond venues. The Walk-Around Grand Tastings at Main Street Station are the flagship, expected to attract more than 4,400 attendees on their own. The Expo places Virginia wine at its core but rotates annual "Regions of Emphasis" to broaden the program — for 2026, those regions are Spain, Portugal, and California's Central Coast. Additional exhibitors from other global regions round out the selection. Satellite events take place at venues including Dover Hall, the Dewey Gottwald Center, The Mill at Fine Creek, and Stock Bistro & Bar, each with its own culinary or thematic focus. The 2026 program includes a global sparkling wine and Champagne celebration, a smoked cuisine and whiskey dinner marking its 10th anniversary, and a tequila-and-cocktail dinner with Chef Darwin Enrique Salcedo at Lolita's.
Ticket prices for 2026 had not been announced at time of publication; prospective attendees should check the official website at virginiawineexpo.com for updates on general admission, VIP, and individual event pricing. The Expo has held Certified Virginia Green Travel Event status for over a decade, with ongoing commitments to recycling, composting, and waste reduction. Virginia Green Travel Alliance is the charitable beneficiary, and Feed More — a Central Virginia hunger-relief organization — serves as the community partner.
Virginia's wine country spans more than 300 wineries, with the state recognized for Cabernet Franc and Viognier as signature varieties. The Expo's rotating regional focus gives attendees a structured way to compare Virginia's style against international benchmarks each year, making it a practical learning experience alongside the tasting floor.
